Ginger Chicken in Basil and Lime

Finally, I am getting to some of the food posts I had promised to publish long ago. This one is a variation on what I was inspired to create when I brought home a load of ginger (because I couldn't pass up the fantastic smell of good, fresh ginger) and three pounds of chicken that was on it's way out the door, if you understand my meaning...

Jr Slash N Dash Biathlon 2009

It was that time of year again, where school is about to start and the summer activities comes to an end. 15 August, both of My Ladies participated in MWR's (moral welfare recreation) junior biathlon, called, The Splash N Dash. The CrazyOne was VERY stoked that she was now the magic age of participation:6.

You Mean Rice Doesn't Grow Like This???

Home schoolers wanted to know where did rice come from? Or did not believe their parents about where rice came from. So, us parental units felt that this (Japan) was a great place, ripe with opportunity to answer, or prove this inquiry for the inquisitive or disbelieveing (or mind; thus the Rice Trip was contemplated, planned, organized, and executed. It was a learning experience...

Her...

04:12hrs and I find I cannot sleep any more than when I first began my futile attempts at 22:40hrs...
Sitting up, I ease myself out of bed and decide to have a little company while I'm up;
So letting SuicideGirl out of her kennel, she accompanies me down the stairs and into the already bright morning. I cross the living room and step to the sliding glass door.
I exhale deeply, pushing back the closed hanging blinds and undoing the lock and latch to let my sleepy, four-legged companion out into the yard. I join her and let the light and heat of the morning settle around me as the birds and insects surround us with their tumultuous sounds.

The Fourth and Our Eleventh

(picture taken of wedding picture: photo has beem stuck to glass for years & can't find negitives)
I am in an obliging mood and felt the call to update this place in an uncharacteristic, remotely timely manner.
This past Fourth of July was not only the celebration of the US's birthday but of the 11th wedding anniversary of SailorStudMan and I.

First Kyu!!!

I realized I forgot to put this into the post of "Our Spring," along with a couple of other stuff.

As the few readers of this place know, I am very much into aikido and practice it as often as I can. Leaving the US and my dojo,AOM so abruptly left a big hole in me and I floundered aimlessly about, looking for a replacement dojo. I had just recently healed up from having a very broken right forearm (see: Found It!!!, And So It Calls), and was ready to start training in the birth place of aikido. So, I tried out the two aikido dojos here on base hoping that at least one of them also did training off base too.

Our Spring

"Ring-a-ding-ding, Spring is here!" So said Rolly Polly Ollie; Eldest's once favorite cartoon. That comes to mind as I click through the photos of our Spring here in Japan--I am reminded that we have passed our first anniversary of retuning to Japan: April 27. A few days after that would be the anniversary of when we first set foot here in The Land Of The Rising Sun: five years now of living in Japan.

Cleaned Up 'n Shook a Tail Feather

The Girl Scout group of CFAY sponsored the base's Father Daughter Dance and the ship ACTUALLY was in. The Steel Mistress was gracious enough to allow SailorMan and his bodyguards to enjoy an event together without interuption. This was a rare and precious moment to be had.

No Egg Nog and Forget About Tamales

Where the hell have I been?!

Truth be told, sulking and decompressing from the holidays. Yes that's right, I discovered this much while hosting a family friend at our house and she kept coming from work then washing my dishes. By the third night I was perturbed enough to think about why I was so bugged by someone else doing my house work, isn't that what I always dream of?

Unplanned events can do one thing or another and all sorts of combinations of things to one's mind.
